Open it and scroll down to **Alarm Tone**, **Alarm type**, **Volume**, **Incremental volume** and **Camera flash**.\n\n## Pick a tone or your own music\n\n1. Tap **Alarm Tone**.\n2. Choose a sound from the list. You can listen before deciding.\n3. To use a music file, tap **+ ADD NEW** and select it with Android’s file picker.\n4. Confirm your choice, then tap **Save** in the editor.\n\nUse an audio file available on your phone. A link to a song on a streaming service is not an audio file. After adding music, test that your alarm can play it.\n\n## Sound, vibration or both\n\nUnder **Alarm type**, choose **Sound**, **Vibration** or **Sound and vibration**. Vibration requires a device that supports it.\n\nIf you choose vibration only, there will be no alarm tone. If you want sound, also check that the selected tone is not **None**.\n\n## Normal and gradual volume\n\nThe **Volume** slider sets the level for this alarm. Choose a level you can hear from wherever you leave your phone.\n\nWith **Incremental volume**, the sound starts quietly and rises to your chosen level. It does not necessarily rise to the phone’s maximum volume.\n\n> Test the level with a real alarm. The volume of a video or your everyday music may be different from the alarm volume.\n\n## Start the flash before the sound\n\nUnder **Camera flash**, choose **Off**, **Steady** or **Flashing**. You can also choose how long the sound waits after the flash turns on. Your device needs a compatible flash.\n\nFor example, a 10-second delay starts the flash first and waits 10 seconds before starting the sound. If you want to hear the alarm at 7:30, allow for that delay when setting it up.\n\nThe flash and light control do different jobs: one gives out light and the other detects room light. If you use both, avoid mirrors or surfaces that reflect the flash towards the sensor; they could turn off or snooze the alarm earlier than you expect.\n\n## How long it keeps ringing\n\nUnder **The alarm will sound for**, choose how long the alarm keeps ringing if you do not turn it off. The available options range from 1 to 30 minutes. This is separate from the snooze interval, which decides when it rings again.\n\nContinue with [Turn off and snooze](https://alarmclock.adrianillo.name/manual/en/turn-off-and-snooze/) or [Light and shake controls](https://alarmclock.adrianillo.name/manual/en/light-shake-volume/).\n\n---\n\nReviewed 22 October 2026. This does not turn light control on: enable it in each alarm and choose whether it stops or snoozes the alarm, as explained in [Light, shake and buttons](https://alarmclock.adrianillo.name/manual/en/light-shake-volume/).\n\n## Auto-calibrate the light sensor\n\nAuto-calibration compares the lighting with the room light off and on to prepare a sensitivity scale for your room and a recommended selection.\n\n1. Place your phone where it will be when the alarm rings, with its light sensor uncovered. Keep it in the same position for both measurements.\n2. Tap **Auto-calibrate**.\n3. Turn the room light off and tap **Measure with light off**. Keep the phone still while **Measuring…** is shown and wait until the app asks you to turn the light on.\n\n![First step of Calibrate light detection in English, with instructions and the Measure with light off button.](https://alarmclock.adrianillo.name/manual/assets/screenshots/en/light-calibration-dark.png)\n\nFirst measurement: keep the phone still in its usual position, with the sensor uncovered.\n\n4. Switch on the lamp you will use to stop or snooze the alarm. Without moving the phone, tap **Measure with light on** and wait for it to finish.\n\n![Second step in English, asking you to switch on the light and start the second measurement.](https://alarmclock.adrianillo.name/manual/assets/screenshots/en/light-calibration-bright.png)\n\nSwitch on the light without moving the phone, then take the second measurement.\n\n5. When **Calibration ready** appears, the slider shows the recommended sensitivity. You can move it towards **Less sensitive** or **More sensitive** before continuing. **Start again** repeats both measurements.\n6. Tap **Set and apply to all** to review the confirmation.\n\n![Real calibration result in English, with the recommended sensitivity, slider and Set and apply to all button.](https://alarmclock.adrianillo.name/manual/assets/screenshots/en/light-calibration-result.png)\n\nThe proposal has not been saved yet. You can adjust the slider or start again.\n\n7. Accept the confirmation to save the new scale and selected sensitivity for all alarms and as the initial setting for new ones.\n\n![English confirmation asking whether to apply these settings to all alarms and new ones.](https://alarmclock.adrianillo.name/manual/assets/screenshots/en/light-calibration-confirm.png)\n\nCheck which alarms are affected before accepting. Cancelling this confirmation leaves the proposal unapplied.\n\n**Cancel** closes the calibration dialog without applying the proposal. If readings are unstable or the light increase is too small, the app keeps your previous settings and lets you repeat the measurement. If leaving the screen interrupts it, start again; if the sensor cannot provide valid readings, check the message before retrying.\n\nAfter applying, test an alarm a few minutes ahead with the phone in the same position: it should keep ringing before you switch on the lamp and perform the chosen action when you turn it on. If you change rooms, lamps or phone position, repeat calibration when needed.\n\nYou can choose another sensitivity inside an alarm’s editor and save it for that alarm. Applying a global setting later also replaces these individual selections.\n\n## Restore defaults\n\nAt the bottom of settings, **Restore defaults** asks you to confirm before returning to the app’s initial preferences, including the original light sensitivity scale. It also applies the default sensitivity to all alarms. Afterwards, review your settings and check your alarms before relying on them.\n\n---\n\nReviewed 22 October 2026. Updated 28 October 2026.
